About us
MoDi Expertise provides structured advisory services to public authorities and institutional partners seeking to strengthen the impact, coherence, and long-term viability of financial mechanisms within their territories.
Our work is grounded in over 10 years of experience in designing, developing, and implementing complementary currency systems across diverse contexts. We operate at the intersection of public policy, institutional economics, and financial architecture, ensuring that monetary mechanisms are conceived not as isolated experiments, but as structured components of broader governance systems.
Network & Institutional Anchoring
MoDi Expertise operates as the practical advisory arm of Monetary Diversity, a European network dedicated to the study and structured development of diverse monetary ecosystems.
This anchoring ensures that our advisory work is informed by accumulated field experience rather than isolated experimentation.
Over the past decade, we have contributed to the design and implementation of complementary monetary systems across Europe, including:
- Local and regional currencies
- Mutual credit systems
- Clearing mechanisms
- Municipal voucher models
- Hybrid public-community financial instruments
Through Monetary Diversity, we maintain active connections with a network of more than 60 non-governmental organisations, alongside researchers, technical providers, and field practitioners operating across Europe. This ecosystem includes expertise not only in monetary systems, but also in:
- Cooperative banking and financial intermediation
- Commons-based governance tools
- Co-housing and cooperative ownership structures
- Mechanisms supporting territorial resilience and long-term sustainability
This multilevel ecosystem perspective allows us to situate each municipal engagement within a broader European landscape, drawing on comparative experience, regulatory familiarity, and established best practices.
Our experience in coordinating and contributing to EU-level initiatives further ensures familiarity with cross-border regulatory environments, institutional compliance requirements, and multilevel governance dynamics.
For public authorities, this translates into advisory support that combines field experience, institutional rigour, and European-scale awareness.
Our Commitment
MoDi Expertise is guided by three principles:
- Institutional coherence - Solutions that fit the reality of public adminsitrations
- Operational feasibility - realistic and workable solutions
- Durable impact - not play-around toy tokens
We do not promote predefined models or ideological frameworks. Instead, we provide structured analysis and tailored design to ensure that any proposed mechanism is financially sound, legally robust, administratively compatible, and aligned with clearly defined public objectives.
Our role is to enable public authorities to explore monetary design with clarity, prudence, and strategic confidence.
